Hi guys, looking at a new HDTV and will probably plug a 360 into it eventually.

Just noticed this though

Unfortunately, there's still no VGA input. As long as PC applications or high-definition gaming isn't a priority though, the screen's dazzling picture performance justifies the comparatively expensive price tag.

Forgive my ignorance here, does this mean i cant run the 360 off of it in HD?

VGA is usually the best quality but component still produce a HD picture so you can still have HD if your TV hasnt got a VGA connector.

However, the continued exclusion of a VGA PC input is still cause for complaint for media centre owners and Xbox 360 gamers -- especially as HDMI-adaptors don't seem to work.

Just found this aswell, i take it these HDMI adaptors still dont work?

Thanks for the info, so do most HD TV's not have VGA ports? Will i need a special cable for component HD?

Cheers.

The Xbox 360 premium kit comes with a component cable which can carry HD signals. The cable can be purchased separately for the basic 360 kit.

Component is perfectly fine for HD input, and depending on the TV can be better than VGA, but it varies.

What is the TV you're looking at? Pretty much every HDTV has component input of some form, which is the most commonly used HD standard at the moment, though HDMI will slowly take over in the next 5 years, the 360 does not currently output to it anyway.

For HD TVs Component is generally better. You really don't need VGA as it's main suppot is for monitors. But do look out for HDMI.

Component is the defacto standard for both the 360 and PS3 and will give you great HD, don't worry about VGA.

That TV is fine, it's got component input and 2x HDMI, so is perfectly fine for your 360 HD gaming needs.

You can also run digitial outputs from PCs / DVI-D through HDMI, as HDMI is a digital only format, which shares the same technology as DVI-D. Note that the 360, at present, doesn't output any digital forms, so component is the only way, but a PC with DVI-D out would work on it.

There are some graphics cards that allow component input I believe, though not sure what kind of results you would get, as it'd need quite a bit of power to re-render it though windows I'd have thought, but may be wrong.

Edit: Do you mean connect the 360 to a PC or connect a PC to a TV? As if you mean that, you can use the HDMI port on the TV if you wish from your DVI port on the graphics card I believe.

It's also now the standard for SkyHD.

Would that be due to the minor issue Sky seem to be having with their HDMI implimentation killing the HDMI inputs on a multitude of manufacturers models of monitors ;)
