Hd instal qn

Hi there going to be instaling a hd into my pc. Is there anything i need to do after connecting it up? or is it done automaticaly by os. Im running windows 8.1 sorry for the noob qn lol

Is it an extra drive? Will just need formatting, usually done from Disk Management
