My PC seems to be struggling with playback of HD-WMV files (most notably the Gran Tourismo HD demo's)

Either in WMP11 the Video is jerky... or using WMP Classic (supplied with Quick Alternative v176) the Audio is Jerky (Video is fine!!)...

My system is:

AMD64 3400+ (Skt754),
512Mb DDR,
nVidia gForce2 MX400 (64mb),
WinXP Home SP2,
ffdshow rev685 20061211 xxl

is my Graphics card causing it??... if so why does it play .hdmov (720p) files no probs (latest Spiderman 3 for eg!!)

I dont know a lot about HD playback on PCs but from your spec i'd say its more likely the memory. At a complete guess. Have you tried VLC player?

your graphics card doesn't support wmv decode assist, so all the strain is put on your processor to do both the video and audio decode - which for a 3400+ may be a bit much.

Upgrading your gpu to a 6 series or higher nvidia card, or a x1 series card would help you out.

The 6200 AGP is very cheap, from nvidias website it says that purevideo is supported. Are you sure that this graphics card will do any acceleration?

My 2800 Barton with a Ti4200 played back WMV-HD 720p files with ease, your hardware is not at fault.

Try using something like theatertek or playing around with your GPU drivers.

my first guess would be ram..

512 is barely enough for a normal (no nlited) xp install to run well

Hmmmm looks like, More RAM and a bigger GFX card!... (things I was going to do this year luckily!! :D )

Cheers Doods
Sim :)

PS: i'll give theatertek a go!..
