HD Still AWOL!

Hi guys i would post this in the hard drive section of the forums but i wouldnt get a reply i know! Anyway here is my question. I brought my pc off a friend of a friend in october and i am supposed to have 2 hard drives, 1 Maxtor 80 gig and 1 faster Maxtor 40 gig i believe but i have only got 1 hd available (Maxtor 80 gig), it doesnt even list the other hd in 'My Computer' so i was wandering could you guys tell me how i can see if its still lurking around or if its dead?!

Check connections and jumper settings on the physical hard drives.

How do i check the jumper settings?

If your in XP then goto Start > Run > "diskmgmt.msc"

If the second drive shows up there then its connected but not formated at all or correctly

If it doesnt show then you need to check the wiring between the motherboard and the hard drive and also if it is pluged in

Its not listed there and it seems all wired up correctlly

If they are on the same ide cable make sure one is set to master and the othr as slave with the jumpers at the back of the drives.

You need to set the jumpers on both drives.

Options are:

M = Master
S = Slave
CS = Cable select

It can be tricky to get both drives working in the BIOS, but once achieved, windows will recognise them and you will have the option to format.
