HD Tune scan - Anything to worry about?

Just scanned my C:\ drive (Samsung 500GB) with HD Tune, as I've been checking all my parts today. One little thing jumped out at me when scanning the drive, screen shots below. Anything to worry about? Bear in mind that the drive is only a couple of months old (bought end of last November) and also it has Windows and all program files on it.

I posted about my HD501LJ in another thread. I didn't notice any problems until I was downloading a file and it looked like the drive, I assume, was trying to write it to a bad sector on the drive and was just clicking and the file wouldn't download. I ran HDtune and came up with 5 damaged blocks. Thankfully I hadn't filled it up as it was a new drive.

As smsmasters says, have a gander at chkdsk and also try Samsungs drive utility, HUTIL. I used it from the the Ultimate Boot CD. When I used it, it told me to erase the drive as it had detected errors. I tried to erase it but it conked out partway through due to the errors.

Hope thats of some help.

Ran chkdsk, not entirely sure what it was supposed to say, but it just ran then closed itself at the end, didn't say anything about any errors. I haven't seen any weird behaviour from the drive, gunna scan it again in HD Tune and see what it says

Flip not another one

I have a pair of these drives and one is acting a little suspect with its smart readings, so far... touch wood it passes all scans but really I should just rma the thing :(

Hmm, I ran the scan again and it found that same bad block. Which is weird, as it says 0.0% damaged blocks. Speedfan says that fitness is at 97% and speed is at 98%.. What are smart readings?

Scanned my other version of this HDD, the one I'm using as my E:\ drive, got these results:

They look fine to me..

Tried running the Checkdisk in windows, neither of the boxes selected - gave me a "Windows could not complete check disk" error message after phase 2. Something's up, isn't it?

Just tried that, closed itself too quick to read what it said at the end but I didn't get any sort of error message come up..

If I were to RMA it, would it be worth it? Had too much hassle with failing hard drives in the past, if I were to send it back explaining the problem would they actually take it based on that one red block?

The reason for the 0.0% error is because there are so many blocks, the 1 block itself isn't enough to make up even 0.1% but as you've seen there is a damaged block appearing.

When you RMA a drive I don't think they actually check it until later or long after a replacement is sent. The turnaround time for my drive was so quick that I received a notification of despatch and the serial number of replacement drive not long after my drive was received by rexo. Also, I don't recall having to explain any problems, you only have to fill the form in requesting a warranty repair/replacement and post the drive off, that's it.

I ran it in a command window, it just closes when it ends and I don't get a chance to read it. Same with when I do it before windows loads.

Can't be arsed with risking another dodgy HDD, when I RMA it shall I do it through OCUK or Samsung?

I would expect that either OcUK or Samsung would want some fault code from the manufacturer's harddrive diagnostic tool, before they start an RMA process.

In this case, I recommend you download and run HUTIL - definitely run the surface scan test, when prompted.

Sooo.. I finally got around to scanning it with HUTIL, and after the long scan it found errors on the HDD. However, I also scanned my D:\ drive for the lols, and it found an error in that one too, something about ECC (forgive my lack of information, I'm not up on my HDD knowledge). Is this a problem? Shall I just RMA them and get some error-free drives? Recently learned all about hard drive error the hard way, so I'm pretty paranoid about it and keen to get error free drives.

Cheers all
