Hi just need a little advice, i want to get a bigger screen for mainly films/tv but most probably end up gaming on it aswell, what i dont understand is whats the advantages/disadvantages of getting say a 32" HDTV over a dell 24" monitor?

Resolution, 32" lcdtv only has a resolution of 1366X768 as opposed to 1920X1200 of the dell 24".
Apart from that, if you buy a good 32" lcd not much.

I personally would reccommend you got for a monitor, I've had the LG26 LX2R for a few months and whilst it's ok the problems associated with the low resolutions start to become a pain in the backside, things are disportionate and space over your desktop is minimall. Wish I'd gone for the Dell now.

I wouldn't use a 1366x768 32" for monitor, too low resolution for the screen size. Buy a 1920x1050 screen, smallest size (so far is 37") and that should offer higher pixel resolution per inch.

Cheers dude yea i did some reaserchine and i bet it will annoy me lol, just wish i got the dell screen when it was cheaper now :/ ah well lol

I own a 32 inch lcd HDTV (Hitachi 32LD7200) and have a BenQ 24.

Frankly the 32 inch is fantastic, I've played 2142, CSS, Quake4 and a ton of other games on it for months, no ghosting, tearing and excellent blacks, backlighting and contrast levels.

the BenQ offers the same level of quality with a smaller screen size but a much higher resolution.

And honestly with FSAA nice and high on the Hitachi, and lets face it a resolution of 1360x768 it's easy to max out everything in all games there isn't much to compare.

The problem I have is being a Nvidia owner I can't have aa and hdr in the games that support it, I'll always use HDR when available and losing aa at that resolution is POOP. The BenQ is different as with such a large resolution on a smaller screen aa is not needed on most games.

Browsing on the lower resolution isn't bad either, but stuff like Photoshop work is murder if you're doing anything larger than a sig and even with small stuff if you're using multiple source images it's a pain still.

Worth noting is a good 32 inch lcd is going to cost you a grand, and sure it will do everything gloriously, from dvd, to console games and all pc stuff but it's still 300 more than an absolutely perfect 24 inch screen.
You absolutely will NOT get image quality comparable to a 24 inch lcd monitor if you buy a cheaper one, it just won't happen.

So, I have both, and love both, but if your budget is in the 700 range you simply cannot beat a 24 inch lcd.

You don't need to spend £1000 to get a decent 32", the prices of LCD's is coming right down, a good one will be around £650-£750. I wouldn't spend too much, as you might want to upgrade to larger/1080p later.

Thanks for the great input guys :D yea my budget is around £700 ish but it can go higher if its for something amazing lol

Anyone recommend 3 x 19" and a TripleHead2Go?? :p

Yeah but he wants to play games, have you seen games on the sets in the 400-800 range?

It doesn't come even remotely close to the quality given by a 24 lcd monitor.

Fireskull if you don't mind taking the time to read a forum a little the AV forums found at http://www.avforums.com/forums/ (hopefully this isn't a competitor link) is a great place to read up, Look under the LCD TV section. Then compare what you find there to the Dell 2407 and BenQ 24.

Make a special point to look at sets that offer dynamic contrast, dynamic dimmer, auto dimming and auto dimmer (all essentially the same thing) and avoid them like the bloody plague. Having a set do that every 10-20 minutes in a slower part of the game will make you want to smash the set.

And lastly, SD TV will look poor on all 32 inch tv's, DVD will look fantastic on a good quality set that offers good black levels and doesnt suffer backlight bleed. Games and consoles will look excellent Sky HD is great as are HD DVD's the level of detail offered and visible from this screen size is such a good ballance.

Cheers for the link dude reading abit there before going to sleep n will read some more when im bored at work :p i might stick with my 19" widescreen for the moment and just get a new TV as my current small one is busted lol, what price will i be looking at for a 26" HD LCD TV for Media PC capabilities, just films and tv, will any decent make one do? or do i still need to check resolutions etc just for this?

One of the very best 26 inchers is the Panasonic 26lxd60 this can be had for 600-700 I believe.

Recomended this to a friend who wanted a 26 inch set for his lounge. 360 was great, dvd's were gorgeous and pc gaming great too, though uncomfortable sitting on the floor as it wasn't at a pc desk.

It has the same 1360 resolution but on a smaller screen which is a good thing for pc gaming. It scales 720p beautifully too. 1200:1 contrast ratio putting it above average and 2 HDMI in addition to a single component and all the standard inputs. Built in DVB tuner and the screen is true 16:9.

You can spend less and get less, but I spent 2 months viewing and taking my own input source to test screens before I bought my own sets (I have a second larger LCD for the lounge) and I still take a very active interest in the technology and new products. I have no regrets over getting a quality set that handles everything I throw at it and never leaves me wanting.
