HD TV?

A friend of mine is looking for a HDTV TV (can be either Plasma or LCD) and have about £1500-£2000. He said that 32" is too small (but might still be acceptable) but I am posting it here just for peoples opinions and what makes/models to look for.

Anyone got any suggestions?

We bought a phillips 42" plasma HD ready in the new year for ~£1500, right one arrived saturday after 2 months (thats another story!!)

Cracking picture, no ghosting at all, or slow down. well worth the money.

LG also do a decent 37" for about ~£1100 and a 42" for about ~£1600 iirc.

Have you got the model number of the Philips plasma? That does sound like what he is after

Also to consider the Toshiba wlt58 series. It comes in both 37 and 42inch sizes and has great reviews. Im having mine delivered in the morning.....

It also has two HDMI sockets built in, which is pretty rare at the minute, but bound to be very useful in time to come.

Sure it is a 42PF7520.

They did deliver the HD compatible one (42PF7320), but to be honest, the quality was no where near the HD ready (1024*1024) one.

Also has a DVI input socket, might have to plug the PC into it and see what HL2 looks like on a 42" screen

For £2,000 he should be able to pick up a Panasonic TH 42PV500 which is regarded as a very good Plasma screen, if he can afford a bit more he could get a Pioneer 436XDE.
The Philips 42PF7520 hasnt done very well in the magazine reviews, What Plasma gave it 3 stars over all (out of 5) and only 2 stars fro picture quality.
What Home Cinema did group test of 5 HD-Ready Plasmas,the Pioneer 436XDE came out in 1st place but the Philips 42PF7520 came out in 4th

Philips seem to make good LCD screens but there Plasma screens arnt up there with the best.
If he looks at the Hitachi Plasmas stear him away from the 42PD6600, the PD7200 and the PD7500 are OK though.
If it was my choice id either go for the Panasonic or spend a bit nore and go for the Pioneer.
