hi everyone ,
i currently run my comp through a 42inch hdtv with a nvidia 320gt graphics card. all i had to do was connect the hdmi lead to the back of the card direct to to the tv.

however im thinking of upgrading to a radeon 6970 can i do the same thing and have sound and vision using the hdmi lead with a direct link

sorry to ask but have looked on internet and cant seem to get a clear answer

Absolutely.

ATi were first over the line in terms of offering bitstreaming support for HD sound over HDMI. I'd say you can have complete confidence that this will work extremely well.

Yes. But doesn't the 6970 have mini HDMI? I can't remember (and i've even got one LOL)

Buy a 6950 and unlock it to a 6970. Normally if the card has a mini hdmi port it comes with the lead. If not you can get them cheap
