hd up scaling and hd playback

helloo

well i was looking at getting a dvd up scaler thing seen about for about £30, but got me thinking if there is any programs that will do this for windows or mac, as i can plug them both in to my tv using hdmi so i can use my pc or mac to play my dvds up scaled to 1080 and play avi and other stuff back up scaled in the same way.

also if i want to play back stuff i download that say's its hd will it play back in hd using vlc on windows and quicktime on my mac???

any info on this would help

Not sure on first point but whenever ive downloaded hd stuff its usually a mkv file which works with most players like vlc, gom player etc...

ok so if i download hd stuff then it plays hd lol

but still need to know how to up scale none hd stuff??

FFDshow is your best bet. Just install and it should automatically start up with all your media players (WMP, MPC, VLC etc.)

Plenty of guides for upscaling with it on the web, such as:

You'll have to play around with settings a bit though to get the best image for your TV. This can be done on the fly however, so it shouldn't take too long

As already said FFDSHOW is what you want to upscale SD to HD - it won't actually get to HD levels but it will make your SD look better if you have the right gear and it's setup properly.
