cAN SOME1 EXPLAIN more e.g how its connected up and some prices or links of dvd players that do this, I want a HDD on it if possible

It is a question of whether your TV or your DVD recorder (or even a dedicated scaler) will be better at upscaling. Some TVs may also have poor legacy inputs.

An up-scaling DVD player is unlikely to do a significantly better job than the scaler in your TV. It could be worse.

A dedicated scaler will set you back between £1500 and £6000 dependant on make and model. If set up correctly you will see an improvement.

Some of the older Sky boxes could be modded to output VGA directly to a scaler with reportedly very good results.

Thats Not true

If it is an HD TV then it is true. A standard Sky box will output 576 horizontal lines. An HD TV will display this as 768 or 1080 lines. It scales the picture to fit the screen resolution.

Technically we are not talking about the Sky signal but the Sky box output but it was obvious what pinkaardvark was implying.

Your plasma\LCD will scale the out put to its resolution (480p standard Skt Box or higher if Sky+\HD) to the screen resolution.

Upscaling DVD will upscale to mostly 720p or 1080i, and there usually an improvement over a non upscaling player, i use a Phillips Upscaling DVD Player and quality is far superior than standard DVD or PC set to my LCD Resolution.

Can pick one up from £45 onwards, well worth it IMO, i have a 42" LCD and makes a great different. I've not bothered with a scaler for Sky as i have a HD box for Sports and download my Movies and TV Shows in HD
