hey guys. firstly, apologies if there is a more appropriate place to post this. basically, i recently got a hd camcorder that shoots 1080p video in mp4 format. i have never had to edit hd video before and im basically after the best software that allows simple editing. I would like to retain the high quality of the original footage in the final edited version and im not particularly worried about how big the files are.

any recommendations?:)

thanks

Sony Vegas deals with all forms of mpeg4 really well. I've only used Vegas Pro 8.0, but I get the impression the less expensive versions have pretty similar features and file handling to cover most peoples needs.

There's always Windows Movie Maker which handles HD I think?

Not sure if Win Movie Maker can deal with Mpeg4 in anything other than WMV types

the most important thing for me is retaining the initial high quality of the footage. Do you guys still think vegas is the best option. Which is the best format to choose for output.
ideally, i just want a program that'll let me clip some footage together and then output in the same format as i imported in i.e. 1080p mp4

use mp4cam2avi it lets you use virtual dub and in this you can chop join your stuff together ,, it you wish you can make a front end using other programs ,, if its just cutting chopping etc..

mp4cam2avi juts lets vdub use the mp4 it dosent change the file ie quility remians the same..but i use vegas usually and so far thats whats been mentioned..

Vegas comes with predefined render options, among them HDV 1080p and Blu-ray compliant outputs.

i cant seem to find the 1080p output option in vegas. wehere exactly is it? Also. apart from vlc, any other media players that can handle mp4?

thanks guys
