If you display a resolution of 1920 x 1080 is this HD , connection would be DVI as my monitor has no HDMI port, but surley if the content is HD content and displayed at that res then its HD regardless of what cable it takes to get to the monitor. I ask as I want to know is it worth getting a blu ray drive "yet", if it wont be HD on my monitor id say its not cost justified (my ps3 is my TV blu ray player).

yes but there's not much point in getting blu-ray as Netflix is expanding into Europe and Amazon has bought LoveFilm so you'll probably be able to stream at 1080p for a lot less than blu-ray (think it's like $9.99 a month in the US for streaming only, so maybe £10 over here)

Yes, this is "Full HD" or 1080p.

Exactly, it will be absolutely fine using a DVI cable, you will still get full HD resolution using this connection.

In fact, the video signal carried by DVI is the same as HDMI, the only difference is the positioning on the pins. Hence you can use passive adapters like this to convert between HDMI and DVI. As such, DVI is also HDCP enabled, and will happily carry Blu-ray signals.

It will be displayed as "full HD" on your monitor, so that isn't a barrier. If you are planning on getting a blu-ray drive now, I would get this one, although the PS3 is a perfectly good Blu-Ray player - if that is what you are using at the moment.
