I have just got today my HD2900 yummy, When i went to install this card computer would not boot.

I had one pci-e power cable conected to the gfx card, Do you need to have both power cords conected??

Thanks in advance for your help.

From what i understand, you need to have at least 2 6 pin pcie cables but if you want to oc from the CCC you need the 6 pin pcie and the 8 pin pcie, think 1 is for the card and the other for the cooler, but not sure.

I think so but only need 2x 6pins to run it but must have 2x 8pins to overclock (unhides overdrive setting in driver, think thats name), but there is a little mod for peeps with PSU's that only have 6pin PCI-E Plugs.

Above user got in as I was typing this.

You need 1x 6pin Pci-Express addaptor, And 1x 6+2 (8pin) DX10 Pci-Express addaptor should you wish to use Ati Overdrive (overclocking) in Ati Catalyst Control Centre.

Or

You can use 2x 6pin Pci-Express addaptors and the card will run exactly the same but no Ati Overdrive in the Catalyst Control Centre.
But overclocking works fine with 2x 6pin's Using a Overclocking Application anyway.

:)

Just a little OT... I'm surpised they don't allow you to overclock the card unless you have a 8 pin connector plugged in, is this for some kind of stability reason whereby the 8 pin provides more power or something?

Thnk you for quick reply,

I have got two pci-e power cables conected now and boots up fine.

Downloaded 7.5 cat but overdrive does not show up in panel iam i doing something wrong.

Overdrive only shows up if you have an 8-pin PCI-E power adapter plugged in.

You can still OC with AMD GPU Tool though.

You can still OC with 2x6 pin connectors, just not through the ATI CC. Third party tools will still allow you to overclock.
