After debating with my self tonight, I may possibly be going back to the dark side. I have suddenly got the urge to try out a GTX, I have the cash for it so why not. The 2900 is a great card some of you may be shocked, its not because the 2900 is a bad card so dont jump down my throat with that one :D or I told you so etc etc , it's just the fact I want to step up past the GTS/2900 level and get some performance beyond that. Let's face it the 2900 will never be a GTX killer and I knew it never would be, It will give the GTS a run though and has. So has anyone here gone from a 2900 > GTX or even down from a GTX to 2900. So what do people have to say on this shock revelation :p . I'd also be fairly gutted to leave the ATi BETA team. It's just an idea atm I'll most likely have changed my mind tommorow when I have numerous bills/car stuff to pay for :p

You got me midedit, my isp is slow tonight, thats what they get for giving 20meg on a undermaintained network.

Just put that card down to the ATI version of the FX5000 series. :p

I aint enjoyed a game yet, I got issue with this Crosshair I think, in process of elimination now for ram/PSU, cant test if GPU or CPU as no spare only older parts.

well, if you've got money to burn and want the fastest (excluding the ultra but the ultra really is insanely expensive for about 2fps more), then go for it. At least you will be able to use AA without a huge performance hit now :D (lol, had to have a little stab :p )

I think my unmodded Ultra @ 700/2400 will gain more than 2FPS, seems to have Purevideo2 also on Rev3 core unlike previous GTX's. (not 100 sure yet)

i was talking about stock clocks, and yes im sure that oc will net you a good hike but not all cards will overclock simarlily

Good luck to whatever you do Tom.

The way I see it any of the high end DX10 cards around at the moment you can't go wrong with. From the GTS, XT to the GTX they are all good cards.

From the benches we were testing on msn Tom, its going to be a worth while upgrade as BF2142 seems to kill the 2900. I had no idea the 2900 was such a mixed bag.

575mhz vs 650mhz......will be more than 2fps.

My gtx is 600mhz stock and raising this to 630 sees me 200 more points in unigine and 500 ish in 3dmark!

30Mhz wont give a 500 point boost in 3DMark

That would mean my 8800 would get a 2500 point boost just from a GPU overclock lol.

Ok maybe 3fps was a bit mean, but its not going to be more than 5-6 in most games. Most benchmarks show this.

In quite a few games such as TDU and Dirt, my 640/2ghz overclock gives a 10fps boost over stock on my 8800.

Anyway to Mr Tom, if your HD2900XT performs the you would like it and your happy with the performance thens their not really any point in getting the GTX.

If it dosent, get the GTX. ;)

A few FPS here and there on maximum frame rates at this end of the graphics card market doesn't mean much anyway.

Minimum frame rates is what I'd be more concerned with.

I mean, using some of the game/card reviews I've read, who is going to notice a jump from 130FPS to 140FPS?

I bet you'd notice a change in minimum frame rates between, say, 50FPS and 60FPS though.

GL Tom! Last person I expected to see changing to the Green with Envy side ;)

Anyways I'm just waiting on my 8800GTS coming back from RMA and then thats me back too! :D

I'm shocked, one of the most stalwarts user of the 2900XT switching.

But hey do what you want to get the best experience.

I really wanted the 1 GIG 2900XT to do better then the GTX just for competition.

It never happened though :(
