Hi all,

I have just reformated my p.c to install an ATI HD3850 but I have very strange issues with it at the moment.

1. Fear has no textures whatsoever only computer screens (in the beginning of the game)

2. The Crysis demo runs... but at about 1 frame per second and sometimes does not load.

3. BF2 hangs at the splash screen and refuses to start altogether.

4. When I shut down the p.c I get this error message (not all the time) page_fault_in_nonpaged_area

5. Doom 3 runs about 15 fps slower than my old 7800GTX.

The only game that is running fine is Half life 2:confused:

I am currently running CCC 8.11 and have tried cat 8.10 but made no difference.

I have all the latest chipset drivers and all windows updates installed.

Does anybody have a clue what's going on with my p.c?

Could be one of two things (IMO)

1. The card is overheating (3850's are prone to this)
2. The card is not getting enough juice (as in power).

I have found the problem.

It was 'support for DXT texture formats' was unticked.

I don't know what this does but it's running great now on all games.

Maybe it's something to do with it's a directx 10 card and I am trying to run DX9 games?

DXT is texture compression, so it was using uncompressed textures which suck up memory bandwidth whereas now it's using compressed versions.
