Anyone got 2 of the hs3870s in crossfire in vista 64?

If you have how have you got on with them?

Is it easy to set up in vista 64 - whats your temperatures like etc?

:)

They run absolutely peachy, but Crysis with crossfire has been my only downfall.

Currently idling at 29ºc, have seen them reach 70ºc~ after a heavy workload.

The setup is as simple as it is on any OS. Install two cards, click "crossfire" tickbox in CCC.

I beleive pritty much all gamse but Crysis are going to support them with ati wanting to push crossfire more now as they have crossfirex also out for up to 4 cards.i. Im sure ati will get something done for crossfire in crysis but it may take a lot longer and not be as optimized as sli.

As said above crossfire should be very straight forward but you must make sure you update drivers regularly as they contain the profiles to make new games run better and current ones. and id suggest your case was very well ventilated for any dual card set up. Id suggest a side case fan.

just completed my 1st crossfire setup last night, needed the ati.com hotfix drivers to run Crysis mind

running 2 Sapphire HD3850's @ 759/954 [its in a shuttle btw] scored 15k 3dm2k6 with an [email protected]

not bad for £220 delivered

i thought that 3dmark was biast to ati? Well i remember the 2900s scoring really well on it yet they wern't very good in games compared to the nvida cards which they beat in 3d mark.

Argh  the choice between an 8800GT and 2 of these in crossfire has got much harder. Would only having 256MB limit these cards especially in crossfie?

Yes it would. The whole point of SLi is to run higher resolutinos well. Already a 256bit interface and 512mb isn;t ideal and in crysis at the native resoulitono fa 24inch at just high settings the GTX uses about 630mb of ram. Thats already more then any of the more recent cards and the GTX has a bigger interface of 386bit i beleive.

I would not sli 256mb cards, no point they would bottle neck to fast.

Well for me crossfire sucks.

I have two 3870s and in doom 3 it actually goes slower with crossfire on.

I like all settings to max on it and with one it slows down in certain areas so it would have been a boost.

And crysis too..

I have 15k in 3dmark 06 I guess that's about right.

40 games on my 1900xtx crossfire setup only 2 don't see any gains. ain't got D3 so can test it out to see if its just a problem with the new cards & drivers for them.
You have tried different A.I settings i take it?

thanks for the reply.

I didn't have both bridge adaptors in lol. I just looked at the ati site and saw I had to do two.

Doom 3 is sorted now.

Only now this - I've now put in another fan to cool the cards down and it's loud.

I'm going to get a fan controller.

Would a simple fan controller be best and what one do you guys recommend?

:D

I would not be with out it! even when i was on my 21" CRT & no way would i go with out it on my 30" 2560x1600 setup.

Hi, sorry to barge in but ive asked in the Home Cinema section as im in the process of building a new HTPC. Im sure most of you PC Gamer fans might know best what to do regards the gfx.

I will be playing games either on a 21" TFT or on my new1080p projector via 80" screen.
Realistically if going for a quad core cpu with good ram etc what is the best options for me with a budget of approx £200 (maybe a bit more) for the graphics but really dont want to go over £250.

Thinking 3850s in Xfire or the upcoming new GTS or get a 3870 now and add a slave in sometime later.

Looking forward to play some bigscreen Crysis/COD4 in 1080p
Appreciate any comments on whats best

Crysis doesn't support crossfire and the GTX uses 630mb of its memory on all high settings not even ultra high and no aa running at 24" native res which i beleive is 1080p? Therefore i think your going to have a bit of trouble if you want to play on a GT or 3870. Who knows about the GTS but it still has 512mb and the 256bit interface.

I would imagine the GT and GTS and 3870 would still not be able to cope with 512mb and 256bit bus. Strangly enough id been saying this for ages that at high resolutinos and AA they wouldn't be able to do it. In crysis you dont even need the AA or the max details.
