HD4770 + Audio Question

Hey guys, I've recently upgraded my tv to a 37" Panasonic Viera and I want to watch the movies on my computer on the tv... I rigged up my old s-video cable to the tv via a scart adapter but needless to say the picture quality was just a little above average...

I know I can get a DVI-HDMI cable but then I wondered about the audio so I hit google and apparently ATI graphics cards have a built-in realtek audio chip that run out of the DVI sockets and to make use of this I need a genuine ATi DVI-HDMI adapter and a HDMI-HDMI cable...

Basically, before I spend any more money on plugs/cables I just want to know if the bit about the graphics card having a sound chip is correct and of course if I really DO have to buy a genuine ATi adapter, or whether any DVI-HDMI cable will pick up the audio signal (if there is one!)

Thanks in advance.

>EDIT<
Ok, I just found the "ATi High Defenition Audio Device" in my 'playback settings' menu, so I guess the 4770 DOES carry audio... However, the other question still stands - Do I need an ATi adapter to make use of this, or will any old DVI-HDMI pick up the audio signal?

Thanks again

Unfortunately I don't have any HDMI out on my card, just 2xDVI and 1xS-Video hence why I need to know if I need a genuine ATi adapter, or if a generic one will pick up the audio signal from the DVI output...

Your card should have come with an adapter, but sometimes it's not always the case. Some generic adapters do work, others don't, but the Ati ones usually always works.

My saphire 4870 came with an adaptor in the box and sound works fine although at first i had a cheap HDMI cable and sound didn't always work until i bought a better HDMI cable

I didn't get an adapter with my 4770 unfortunately, anybody have an ati adapter they'd like to sell me? If so, drop me a PM :)

I'll have to take my chances with the cable, it'll be the best I can afford (which probably will be cheap as chips lol)

You might be able to find an adaptor on the bay. I found a few with the search term 'ati dvi to hdmi'

Not finding many other places to buy them. Seems that mostly they ship with the graphics cards themselves.
