Hey guys, I've recently upgraded my tv to a 37" Panasonic Viera and I want to watch the movies on my computer on the tv... I rigged up my old s-video cable to the tv via a scart adapter but needless to say the picture quality was just a little above average...
I know I can get a DVI-HDMI cable but then I wondered about the audio so I hit google and apparently ATI graphics cards have a built-in realtek audio chip that run out of the DVI sockets and to make use of this I need a genuine ATi DVI-HDMI adapter and a HDMI-HDMI cable...
Basically, before I spend any more money on plugs/cables I just want to know if the bit about the graphics card having a sound chip is correct and of course if I really DO have to buy a genuine ATi adapter, or whether any DVI-HDMI cable will pick up the audio signal (if there is one!)
Thanks in advance.
>EDIT<
Ok, I just found the "ATi High Defenition Audio Device" in my 'playback settings' menu, so I guess the 4770 DOES carry audio... However, the other question still stands - Do I need an ATi adapter to make use of this, or will any old DVI-HDMI pick up the audio signal?
Thanks again
