Right,

So i've got an HD4850 with Dual DVI and HDTV Outputs, but no HDMI - i have been informed that if i get the right "adapter" DVI-HDMI, i can have the sound coming from the gfx card, instead of using the audio jack on my PC?

Is this true?

I thought DVI was Video only, unless these new DVI-HDMI adapters can sort this problem out?
 
Yep its true, but you should have got the adapter that allows the sound as well with your card, as unfortunately you can't get them seperately, so all you can do is contact the place you got it from, in the hope they'll send you one out. :)
 
the one i got doesnt transfer sound - tried it there - just found it. Might contact XFX!

The one i have got works - just needed a reboot - wonderful!
