Hi,

I just installed a 4870, installed the latest 8.8 drivers, but after restarting windows (XP 32bit), it says there in an unknown device?

I think this may be the HDMI related thingy, but where do I get the drivers for that? Shouldn't it come with the Catalyst drivers?

Please help!

Thank you! I'll give that try, but for now I've just disabled the device in device manager and doesn't seem to bother me anymore, lol. Does installing this HDMI audio driver cause any issues with your soundcard? I'm probably never going to use HDMI, so I'd rather not install if it will mess up my current audio setup.

Also, while I'm at it, I noticed that in CCC and GPU-Z, the cpu occasionally clocks up to 750mhz and immediately back down to 500mhz whilst in the desktop. Is this normal?

Shouldn't do that in XP since XP has no desktop composition to draw Windows using the GPU BUT I am guessing it's pulling the GPU into actiong during direct3d/directdraw tasks instead hence the change.

Nothing to worry about though.

Yeah, it only does it when I switch to different window or something; if I leave it idle, it stays at 500mhz.

Another odd thing I noticed is that about 30sec - 2min after booting into windows, the fan speeds up to 100% for a second or two. I have no idea why it does it, but it nearly gave me a heart attack first time round. :D

I also nearly spat my tea all over my keyboard when I first ran Crysis; it made my x1900xt look like a youtube video.

Can someone with a HD4870 or 4850, check for if they can select the resolution 1400x1050?

This is the 4:3 res that best suits 1680x1050 screens and the res I play BF2 in (because it doesn't have proper WS support). It worked with my x1900xt, but the 4870 doesn't allow me to select it at all. :(

^^ Thanks.

I guess they just missed it out in the drivers. Whether it's standard or not, if an X1900XT can do this resolution I see no reason why the 4800 series cannot. You can even get LCD monitors with 1400x1050 native resolution.
