i got a hd5770 which crashes when playing games i have tried updating the driver but no luck. anyone got any ideas?

specs:
h55 mobo
alpine 550w
i3
4gb ddr3
windows 7
hd5770 driver (11.4)

A fresh install of Windows 7 would eliminate any software problems (avoid driver cleaner as your only asking for trouble) but I suspect it's your crappy PSU that's giving you the grief here.

his PSU can provide the power. I'm putting my bets on software or overheating

With a cheap PSU, they more often than not cant sustain or provide the power they originally quote.

I am not saying for definitely your psu is at fault but a cheap one does not help, But your looking at a decent one this will be good.

Have you uninstalled the old drivers for the motherboard GPU.

Even if it's not the PSU at fault, it will be in a year's time when he's sniffling over a bunch of burned out components when the PSU goes bang.

why avoid driver cleaning software?

Corsair and XFX probably both manufactured by Seasonic.;)

yes they are also antec. waiting on a decent psu to come. will reinstall windows when i get a storage medium to backup. removed old drivers and updateing to 11.5 did nothing. anyone got anyother ideas.

Try running Furmark or 3D win mark Vantage and see how these fair, is there any possibility of testing the card in another machine or testing another PSU.
