HD5770 & Screen Corruption...

Hi, I've recently purchased one of these gfx cards and I'm noticing screen corruption whilst using the HDMI port. If I use an HDMI adaptor on the DVI port, with the same HDMI cable, I get none. The screen corrupt is very severe whilst gaming, coloured flashing, with white 'sparkles' on the 2d desktop. If I plug my HD4870 back into the same system, using the DVI adaptor and cable I get no problems what so ever. So I wondering if there is any history of this issue and the 5770 that anyone else has noticed.
Cheers...
Chris

Hi, and thanks for your reply. I can swop back to my HD4870 in the same PC and I get no corruption. Put back the 5770 and back it comes.

If you have tried different cables etc, id RMA it tbh, I use the hdmi output on mine and it has no issues like this, just a wierd flashing of black to dark gray sometimes while loading :)

Hi, thanks again, I was just trying to find out if the HDMI port had any known problems and as I said the cable is fine when used with a DVI adaptor.. The card has actually just come back from OC as having tested OK, ball's in their court I guess. If they're prepared to cover my costs I'll keep it as I'll be purchasing another come the new year to use as xfire..

A lot of us with 5xxx series are getting this problem, I get the same with my 5770. From what i've seen it tends to be the worst if you have an Asus motherboard. Getting rid of Microsoft Security Essentials helps to some degree if you've got it installed, but doesn't fix it entirely. Hopefully the new 9.12 catalysts will fix most of the issues tomorrow. I wouldn't bother RMA'ing it unless you can get a refund and want rid of the card, the next one will be the same.

Hi, that's interesting R34pz, I have it in a Asus motherboard however I've not installed MSE, unless it comes with windows 7 x64. OC will not refund as they claim the card works ok, but I doubt very much if they tested it fully. As it works ok on the DVI/HDMI adaptor I'll keep it anyway and hope that the problem is fixed soon.

I am currently building a PC. I now have:
ASUS P6T Deluxe V2
Core i7 920
6 GB Pariot DDR3 1600 RAM

So, I still need a video card. I want one of the ATI 5000 series cards. Plus, I was planning on buying an HDTV and using it as a monitor via the HDMI port. But, after reading this thread, I am having second thoughts about ATI's 5000 series for that setup.

Hi again R34pz, I don't suppose you've any links to where this corruption is discussed at all. Might help me a great deal.
Thanks,
Chris

I had the problem with both my asus cards... i got my money back from the etailer ....does not matter which way you look at it they are not meant to have pretty colours on your screen when you use them there for they are not fit purpose. there is some tallk on the 5770 thread on here mate and longer thread on OCN.net hope it helps.

Hi, thanks, I wish OC were more a bit more understanding but they say there are no issues with the card thus I have no right to reject them. I'll check out the link though, thanks...

Hi Chris, as BigBruiserAl says, it's been discussed quite a bit on these forums, and at length on OCN.net. It seems that almost everyone is getting issues with the 5xxx cards, it just seems that Asus motherboards seem to be causing the most problems. I'm sure things will be sorted out one way or another though. At the end of the day it's a new range of cards with first generation drivers, either new catalyst drivers or updated mobo BIOS will sort things out for everyone I would think within a few weeks. For now I would try the 9.12 catalysts out later today (hopefully), and set your pcie slot to 101mhz in your BIOS, things may well be ok after that.

Hi, thanks, I'm just about to download them now, I'll let you know the outcome possibly saturday, too many xmas parties, hic...

Hi, The OC RMA dept have suggested trying the card in another PC. I've got one but I would have to lug it downstairs so as I can connect it to the TV via the HDMI port, as this is the only port exhibiting the issue...
Chris

hmmm, im running 2 of the asus 5770's and the asus board in sig, running w7 x64, dont seem to have these issues with the hdmi. any way to try with a different television? iv heard the microsoft erssentials has issues, stay away from that cr*p :)

theres a 9.12 hotfix out that sorts out a few issues i think to do with microsoft essentials etc.

Hi, and thanks for your reply, why would changing the TV make any difference when I get no artifacts when using the DVI/HDMI convertor, the TV is still using the same cable and input port. As I've said before, unless the MSE comes as standard with windows 7 I've not installed it, agin, as everything is fine when connected via DVI it cannot point to the the os can it?
