Hi Guys,

OCTS have asked me to post here with my question so here goes,

I have just purchased a nice shiny new ATI HD5850 card,
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-215-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1502

What i am trying to ultimately achieve is three monitors, These will not all be used for gaming as i need an alternate display for my setup

so to quote the website

Expand your visual real estate across up to three displays and get lost in the action with revolutionary ATI Eyefinity Technology.

and

Display Connectors: 2 Dual-Link DVI-I, 1 HDMI & 1 DisplayPort

i have also purchased a hdmi to dvi lead and have read that it will not work like that as the hdmi is shared with one of the dvi's

so im assuming im going to be using the DisplayPort so now i need a DisplayPort to Dvi adapter,

Could someone put me right so i know what i need as i have been faffing around for 3 weeks and now am at the expensive option, but it is Christmas after all.

TIA

Dude, if you're not gonna game on the 3rd screen (looks like you use it for a DJ setup), you could just buy a cheapass second graphics card and run the monitor on that?

Su

yep i thought that and bought another x1950 from ebay but win7 doesnt seem to see it. on the second pcie slot

i have an asus p5w deluxe mobo.

i have checked all the bios settings and there is no option to enable that i can see,

anyway ive got this new card now and would like to make it work. :)

i will still enjoy my gaming on my main monitors

an update to this post for future readers.

i have got my new card and got it running in the machine nicely,

Do note the machine did bluescreen when starting games and crash and this was caused by microsoft security essentials.

I have inserted the hdmi and the 2 x dvi pugs and can switch between the monitors nicely using only 2 at a time.

Tomorrow i have the passive displayPort to dvi converter as greebo suggested coming so hopefully i can output to all three at the same time.

hopefully ill get there in the end.

Hi again guys,

I need a hand now if i can,

i have now exhausted 99.9 % of my options to get this going,

I have tried the display port and 2 x dvi's

i have dried the hdmi and the 2 x dvi's

and there doesnt seem to be any way that i can get three monitors going without the nice expensive addition to the setup of the active display port to dvi converter,

The card is advertised as supports three monitors so i assume it can be done?

with both options i can see all the displays in the catalyst and in the windows config but i cannot make all three work at the same time.

the situation is the same when switch monitors and windows essential is on and the machine does a bsod and reboots.

Remember i dont want to game accross all three only duplicate or extend,

Any thoughts or have i exhausted the overclockers technical support?

As you saw in the small print you aren't going to do much unless you pick one of the previous three options sadly.

previous three options?

i have tried all of them that i know of apart from spending another 80 quid on the active displayport to dvi?

can anyone guarantee it will work as i have spent of 300 pounds trying to get this sorted already?

Well you don't, but only if you don't have a DP connection based monitor.

Not sure what good someone such as me giving you a guarentee would help, personally I've not used the adaptor but what you are trying to do is what it is for as far as my understanding goes.

This is where the theory falls over in my tiny mind.

The monitor does work with the passive Dp to dvi converter and is recognised in the catalyst.
