My first 5870 failed after just over a month when the fan stopped working. Had to wait a couple of weeks for more stock to come in to get my replacement sent out, which just made it before christmas... tested out ok.

I tried playing dragon age tonight to notice strange patterning on flat areas of the menu's. Oh oh.

Tried the ladybug demo, and noticed a bit of patterning on the loading progress bar on the initial screen....

...and when it loads up I'm greeted with a screen full of multi-coloured dots. :(

Using 9.12 drivers - so uninstalled and reinstalled 9.11 - same problem. In fact when I had uninstalled the drivers and was using stock W7 ones, I did notice a few odd dots if I looked really hard on 2D screens.

Checked, and fan is still working on this one.

Haven't overclocked the card or messed with it in any way either.

So looks like my 2nd HD5870 card had gone faulty too, and I've hardly used it (due to being busy and all over christmas).

If I combined the two cards I would get one good working one. :D

Is it just my bad luck or are there some issues with the 5870's?

Both are sapphire ones as well.

Looks like another RMA. Don't know whether to try for another replacement (3rd time lucky?) or ask for a refund this time. Obviously costing me postage every time I send it back.

Its a bit annoying... :(

Imagine it is very annoying, although you should be repaid postage when something is faulty.

Ahh well - RMA raised. Tempted to get a refund but will check my options.

Anybody else had to return multiple cards?

RMA it. Bought a ATI card a long time ago and always had problem with it. Never touch them again. Stick to the NVIDIA if I were you.

Not going to get into this whole nvidia vs Ati thing. :D

Been using Ati cards for years and not had any problems up until these 5870's. Probably get a refund and just see if things get any better in a few months once the production stabalises.

In the immortal words of Dr McCoy - "I think its dead Jim!" :(

Well, as said - RMA'd the card, and got a replacement after they tested it. Shipped out a brand new card too (but then the faulty one was only a couple of weeks old or so, and I sent the complete box back). :)

Anyhow - this one appears to be working fine. Hopefully 3rd time lucky. :D

The replacement doesn't seem to come with that battlestations pacific (?) game - but then I don't think its much cop so no great loss there, especially if it means I get a stable card. ;)
