Hey Guys,

Just in case anyone is interested as I couldn't really find many benchmarks to test eyefinity. I have just got a HIS 6950 today thanks to OCUK. Been playing about with it for a few hours. The main reason I wanted to upgrade was because I run eyefinity at 6144 x 1152. I was hoping that the extra v ram would allow me to run Bad Company a bit faster.

I have run multiple benchmarks using FRAPS on the into for Bad Company, setttings as follows....

Level Of Detail : Medium
Textures : Medium
Shadows : Medium
Effect : Medium
AA : 2x
AF : 2x
Vsync : Off
HBAO : Off

These are the setting I normally used to play online with my old HD5870 to get a decent FPS.

HD-5870 Stock

Min : 8
Max : 75
Avg : 43.522

HD-6950 Stock

Min : 8
Max : 78
Avg : 43.881

HD-6950 Stock ( unlocked shaders - 6970 )

Min : 10
Max : 80
Avg : 45.706

HD-6950 - 1.175 Core Voltage - 880 Core Clock - Memory Clock - 1375
( unlocked shaders - 6970 )

Min : 9
Max : 86
Avg : 48.339

I have also done some benchmarks of heaven not on eyefinity res tho, just one monitor at 2048 x 1152

I'm quite happy with the results and it seems to be running fine as a full HD6970. I am interested to know if anyone else has pushed there HD6950 to clocks above the stock 6970 and what kind of results they have. The plan is to run the card 24/7 as a HD6970 but would like to know what is considered to be safe and what temp levels are acceptable.

Thanks,

Kev

Hey Timko,

So you have had the same idea as me :) Sorry I probably should have posted the system specs. Its running at .... Q6600 @ 3.00 Ghz / 8Gig DDR2 @1000Mhz.

CPU does 3.3 but have taken it down due to heat. It does this sometimes due to the heatsink. I need to reseat it but couldn't be bothered as wanted to play with new card.

All in all I don't think there is huge difference between them tbh. It only cost me 100 for new card tho as sold old 5870. You certainly notice the difference in heaven tho. The new card is a hell of a lot better at DX11 so I think will be good for new games but older ones it's only really just gonna be a bit quicker. Still can't complain that it's basically a 6970 for a great price.

Gonna try out Bad Company online now, not benching, just to see if it feels better and might try up to max quality, that's all I really wanted but feel that's probably asking too much.

Just tried bad company there, its running a lot better, can have setting all on maximum and even ramped up the AA and AF higher than 2x, it's a lot smoother than before :) Defo a decent upgrade if your thinking about it. Hope that helps anyone with same idea.

Monitors are all Dell SP209W. I can run at 1080p but its not native res on these monitors, the native res is 2048 x 1152.

Right now i'm more than happy that this card is running as a full HD6970 and i'm planning on making a BIOS with the tools in the sticky thread now that keeps it locked on HD6970 voltages for 24/7 use.

Right now i'm using afterburner just to test stability. I'm tempted to take the Core Clock up past 880 and see how it fairs. I think i'll keep the Memory Clock at 1375 if other people are having problems with it.

Can anyone suggest a good program to stabilty test temps, I have been using furmark but it's a real beast and I understand normal gaming would never hit these levels. I got readings of 82 from HD6950 on stock and 89 when on full HD6970 this was 2 15 min tests to make sure it leveled out. Can anyone post what are acceptable levels and possibly a different benchmarking tool that's not as extream ?
