I am sure that a lot of people will have actual recommendations but keep this in mind:
Different users have different experiences due to different rigs and different skill sets playing different games.
Any driver between 10,4 (and earlier for that matter, but a lot of people really like the stability of Catalyst 10.4) and 10.7 (i.e. the newest one) have worked for a lot of people while not being ideal for a lot of other people.

i've gone back to 10.5's as they give me the best performance, but i've not had any problems with any other drivers (apart from earlier drivers than 10.4 with 5870+5970 xfire)
