I have a AMD HD6970 2GB (flashed from 6950) would i see a nice increase in performance if i upgraded to a GTX 670 2GB card? Was looking at the AMD HD7970 cards but looking at GPU benchmarks the 670 is cheaper and scores higher on the benchmarks. I game at 1920x1200

7950, and 7970 beat the GTX 670/680 in virtually all benches, with these new AMD 12.11 drivers.

The reviews you will have been looking at will have been on old drivers. the later 12.11 drivers pushed the performance of 7### series GPU right up.
To the point where they are on par or better than Nvidia across the range.
The 7950 is the best GPU for its money right now.
