So, I want to get this card and pair it with a i5-2500. As far as I can tell, Overclockers are doing the standard HD7850 for £180, but another online shop are doing the HD7850 OC for £182.

Is is a no brainer that I should go for the OC version? I'm a bit of a newbie at building PCs, so do I need to take anything into account if I go for the OC version?

The OC version will just have a slight factory overclock - my MSI OC version is 950/1200 instead of stock 860/1200. But just about every 7850, OC or not, will go way above 950 on the core, so it really doesn't matter which you buy. The factors in your decision should be likelihood of getting a good OC'er, cooling system, reviews...but not that one has a minor factory OC.

go for whichever is cheaper, or looks nicest, or has the best warranty etc.

7850s can all be overclocked. Overclocking a graphics card is easier than a processor imo.

The max overclock is a combination of gpu binning, component choice(pcb design) and silicone lottery (luck). If the card is the same pcb and not aimed at overclocking (lightning/TOP/Classified/HAWK/POWER/SOC etcetc then it's blind luck.

Oh btw, I hope you mean a 2500k ;D.

Although if buying now I would get a 3570k. and a z77 mobo.
