OK I have about 40-50 gb of space left on my hdd, however a little while ago it suddenly started saying I only had 200mb left. I deleted a couple of bits to get it back up to about 6gb, ran an adware scan (ad-aware) which brought up nothing, also ran a virusscan (norton) only a couple of days ago whcih also brought up nothing (will run one tonight just to be sure). Just went for a game on css for a bit, came back to my comp and it now reads 12gb free space. Any ideas?

Try running a Hardware check on your HDD. My Computer > Right-click the HDD > Properties > Tools > Check for Errors > Check both boxes, hit enter, and then restart and let it works its magic.

Thanks.

I ran chkdsk but had to quit it before it finished (had to go to bed) so just turned off my comp (coulddn't find a way to abort it). Got in this evening and it started bsod'ing before it loaded in windows! no specific problem reported, just a stop error. Tried safe mode and everything, wouldn't work. Anyway dug out my windows disk and ran chkdsk off that, it found some errors on the volume. Just reloaded my computer and it has now restarted the chkdsk I started last night, will see how it goes. Still seems quite strange though - could this be a virus that norton didn't pick up? Could it be an unstable build? It was my first build when I did it (about 2 months ago), so could it be something to do with that or would it have manifested itself immediately if that was the case?

As a matter of fact windows itself seemed to be taking longer to load in over the last couple of weeks.

The chkdsk seems to have cleared the hdd memory problem, and windows has loaded again, fingers crossed it was just a glitch from closing down the original chkdsk scan prematurely
