Hi lads,

My Raptor died few days ago, then last night my WD500GB drive got somehow corrupted, all I do recently is play Aion. While I was playing the game I had some pop ups saying something about my HDD and to backup but I always canceled as I was busy in game.

Then I decided to install some updates before going to bed and everything failed, my system froze itself and then blue screened.

Now everything fails, I cannot do safe mode, repair, fresh install or anything (win7 still loads up almost fully, like to the 95% then stops and I can only move the mouse cursor ), the drive still reads but something is wrong as sometimes when I load up win7 dvd it wont load completely and fresh install failed as well at 22%. Few times when I loaded up from win7 dvd I didn't even get to the screen where you get the option to install/repair anything.

I am still not formatting or anything as I have data I need to copy to external hdd (I know I failed again with backup :mad::mad::mad: ).

I am going to try tonight load up Ubuntu from a cd and backup data if possible, I cant think of anything else I can do now.

I am also hoping that my other parts in the system not cousing my HDDs to fail as its 2nd HDD in like 3-4 days and I never had a HDD failure in 10 years time apart from the last few days.

I ordered SSD today so will use it tomorrow.

Do you know of any free utility that I can use to boot my system from that will check my HDD?

Do a new Win 7 install on the SSD and then you can boot from that to check your old disk. If something else is causing the disk errors, such as a motherboard issue, the SSD install should also fail or not boot consistently, but at least you won't have any data on there to lose.
