With my rig appearing on my doorstep in the next few weeks I'm thinking of hdd cooling. Mainly to keep them cool and give them a bit more life :)

I've been looking at this: Skythe Ita Kaze at a reasonable price of £10 each.
Anyone rate them? or not?

And also this: Akasa HDD Cooler at another reasonable price of £5.

I'd need 2 for 2x hard drives (Caviar Blacks)
Any help much appreicated ;)

Edit: It has to be compatible with the trays in a CM690 case. ;) (or attached to hdd)

As long as there is a fan in the case pushing air over them then there isn't really any need for more hdd cooling.

I don't like the look of either. Can't see the cooling effect being significant. Of the two though, I'd want the scythe. As long as there is some case airflow over them you won't have a problem, a lot of cases mount them at the front behind a 120mm fan for this reason.

Otherwise, bear in mind that the black bit is a single piece of metal. Any heat extracted from the sides or base will do, but you can't cool it through the silvery plate on the top. Heatsinks screwed into the sides while it's mounted by the base holes works well, but is again unlikely to be required.

Yeah as long as they have a fan placed in front of them they will be fine. Between 30 to 40c depending on air flow
