HDD Disappears Until I Shut Down

Hi,

My computer was working fine. I decided to install Windows 10 today.

I disconnected my HDD and only left my SSD connected. Installed Windows 10 successfully, installed drivers/programs etc.

I then turned it off and connected my HDD (Storage). It shows fine but I noticed when I went to copy files from the HDD to SSD it would start doing it for about a minute or so then the speed goes to 0MB/s and nothing happens. When I close it all and check my HDD doesn't show anymore and says files are inaccessible. When I restart it still doesn't show, even in the BIOS.

The only way I can get it to re-appear is when I turn the PC off, and then on again.

But when I try to copy files again it repeats the same process.

Does anyone have any suggestions I can try to fix this?

Thanks

UPDATE: Just some extra info, my music is on that hard drive too so I decided to let iTunes play for a while. After around 5mins it stopped playing the music and the program is unresponsive.

latest mb bios?

looked in

Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings advanced and disabled turn off hdd?

might be different for windows 10

I had an almost identical issue at the weekend with my brothers PC (I just installed windows on a new SSD drive). Trying to transfer any files from one of his other HDD's would drop to about 35kb/s

It turns out that the HDD playing up in question had the cable not quite in the port properly. It must have got knocked when I was fiddling about. His case is really small and the ports are under the GPU so its hard to see unless I remove the GPU (which I did in the end). I then used SATA cables with clips on them..

Latest bios installed.
HDD set to "never turn off" in Control Panel.

As far as the cables go, I will try another one but it has been working fine before I installed Windows 10 (which I have installed twice).

Will try another cable and port and let you know if the problem persists.
