I had a laptop drive that sucked, bought a replacement drive, its currently running vista basic oem, I just used one of the various clone drive facilities, clonned my old drive to the new drive, pc booted up but I hada do a clean install, it should work fine, it did for my laptop, should work fine, nothing illicit about it, just what you own and moving its location.
