I'm thinking about buying one of those hdd media players that plug into your tv so you can play avi/mp3 files etc. Has anyone used them? Are they any good? I can't leave the PC on all the time to stream stuff so that's not an option. A media centre pc is not an option either cos the mrs doesn't want "another" pc in the house! At least with one of these players I can move it out of the way when it's not being used.

You could get a media PC as long as you put it in a nice media centre type case. She'll just think you have a new combo DVD player. ;)

Hi ,
Yes indeedy I bought one 2 weeks ago it was the media gate 35 from freecom
http://www.freecom.com/ecproduct_detail.asp?ID=2345

It is a rebadged model from another company , I stuck a 300G HD into mine , plays divx / xvid / mpeg1&2 / mp3 fine , also allows you to share stuff on your network and stream them to the box 10/100M port on unit.

svp stock them

I bought the exact same thing and haven't looked back, absolutely aamzing and really good value coming in under £100 with postage :) Would recommend 100%

She's wise to me now and can spot new technology in an instant! Probably wont be long before she takes the side panel off my computer to check if anything's been updated :D

I was thinking about the media pc route but would it be worth waiting for vista to come out before going down that route?
