Help, I've an old Desktop that I use mainly for storage(hardly ever on) I just swapped out the GPU from a Palit GeForce GTX 560Ti to a Nvidia GeForce GTX 680, restarted PC expecting to just update driver, now it says no HDD detected? what could be causing this, it was working over two weeks ago, before I changed cards out? I have not touched any of the sata connections
what could cause this? any pointers please?

Update after fiddling about myself, PC now showing no signs of starting when power button is pressed
back power switch is on and litten up, all connections have been unplugged-replugged

The drive with OS on it is a Sandisk extreme pro 240GB I've plugged that into my other desktop and it is working as it should

there has been no smoke or strange noises coming from anywhere

dunno were to go from here?

rest of PC spec

OS Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium X64
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU X9650 @ 3.00GHz, 4Core(s)
Mobo Asus P5QC

PSU 850 Watt

Did it work ever with the 680? If the answer is no then you probably need to update your BIOS. This is a risky operation that I rarely suggest. If it goes wrong then it can turn your entire PC in to a useless door-stop. Try placing the 560 back in. If that works, then it is most likely the 680 that's causing the problem, and most likely you need to update your BIOS. Please take extreme care though making absolutely sure you do it right, cus it really is risky.

No Pocah, never tried till today, funny thing is tho, I'm pretty sure it is an OS problem (yeah, don't wanna mess with the BIOS n fact I ain't gonna LOL)

I think the power issue is a dodgy switch, this Thermaltake case must be about 9 years old now LOL
I managed to get it working by pressing F8 at start up, this gave me the option to load standard BIOS, PC started after that, going to dig deeper over the next couple of days

hmmm, the plot thickens, PC when not starting says it wants start-up disc for VISTA, I got her started yesterday and the OS is actually win 8 :o

OK last question, I think I'm getting there, what would be the symptoms of a dead CMOS battery?

By pressing F8 I get the option of which drive to boot from and she is starting fine that way
oh and I managed to get the GTX 680 card installed and it's up and running

When you turn the PC off at the plug, leave it off for a few minutes and then power it on, it will lose all the BIOS settings, if the CMOS batter is flat.

Was that your issue in the end?

yeah, part of it LOL PC now starting as it now remembers which Disc has the OS on it - schoolboy error, think the last time I flashed the BIOS was over 10 years
