During Windows 8.1 installation my brand new HDD isn't recognized although it is in the BIOS.
The obvious thing to do would be to check that drivers are up to date, which I've done with no success. I then checked that the BIOS it's self was up to date & tried a different SATA port but windows still wont find the thing. I have even tried Ubuntu & an old Windows 7 disk i have lying around, so i know the issue isn't windows 8.1 specific.

My Hardware:
Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
AMD FX6350
XFX R7950 DD
1TB Hitachi ultrastar 3.5 SATA HDD

What do guys? I've had this build for 2 weeks and i've not been able to use it, it's killing me.

Thanks for the replys. It is recognized in the BIOS, this means the HDD is ok right? I'll try it in this PC anyway.
I've already updated the latest drivers, although i get no conformation from Windows to tell me they have installed properly, is this normal?

Edit: I've just connected the new HDD in this computer and it's not showing.. Looks like the hard drive is the problem.

Hang on, for some reason I assumed you were installing Windows on to it. You're connecting it alongside another harddrive (which has Windows already installed) and Windows isn't detecting it? Does Windows show as detecting new hardware? Have you looked in Drive Management?

I am installing Windows onto it. As somebody on here recommended, i connected it to a working PC and it isn't recognized on it either.

@daveip, i checked in there also and it is not shown.
