Not sure if this is related to my motherboard or HDD so i thought i'd post it in general.

I've got a DFI NF4 Ultra-D motherboard and western digital SATA-II HDD. Although XP is set to power down my HDD after 1 hour, it doesn't do this. Even after a rebuild. I don't know why. The BIOS has got various power management options but i dont know if they are relevant or not, I always thought windows would do the power management if you set it up.

i tend to find only non system drives go to sleep. xp seems to keep my main drive awake and ticking away doing nothing very much.

Also, if you use your PC daily - Keeping the drives spinning increases their lifespan.

The most stress is put on a HDD when it spins up from 0 RPM -> 7200 RPM.

So it's good that they don't sleep. :p
