is there a program where i can use some HDD space as RAM ?

i've got an old Dell Inspiron 4100 Laptop 1Ghz CPU, 128MB RAM and it goes a lil slow cos of so little RAM

Is there some sort of prgram that could do this for me even if it will only make it go a little bit faster ?

Thanks

Windows already does this. It is called a page file. If something new needs to go into RAM, it copies anything not used for a while that is in RAM to the pagefile on the hard disk.

You can increase the size of the page file but unless Windows is moaning about it you probably already have enough.

Either way you wont see any increase in speed, just the amount of stuff you can have open at once.

Virtual Memory is the Pagefile :)

Right-Click My Computer and choose Properties from the pop-up menu
Click on the Advanced Tab
Then Settings under the performance section
Then Advanced tab
Then the change button at the bottom.

But again, unless Windows is complaining about your VRAM and/or Pagefile you may as well leave it alone. You wont see any speed increase.

Go to the dell website and plug your laptop number in - you'll get a whole tech support section with manuals/drivers etc... the manual will tell all

Sure one of our clients use them and yes they will take more ram, however be careful as I have this nasty feeling it will only run on Dell ram and maybe a few others and not cheap off the peg stuff.

As the others have said 128MB is not enough for XP as an absolute min you want to have 256 - I find 384MB is fine.

Also laptops have a habit of using system ram for the graphics card.

Update the ram and it will work just fine, processor is fine. :)

Not 100% sure I'd check with the supplier first before you buy the ram that it will work, We did have problems but can't rembember if it was those ones or some others, all I can remember that they were Dells.

The ram is nothing special ie odd standard or size, it just won't work.
