HDD TRANSFERE

IV got an older pc that and am looking to get a new one
i want to transferre everything accross from the old HDD to the new 1 can i
1. just swap the old HDD out and then copy everything in widows
or
2. Use a HDD cloning tool to place everything onto an external hdd and then boot new pc from that and copy data to new pc???
What is the best solution or is this going in completly the wrong direction???

You can just install the old hdd to your new system and copy the data you need from it onto your new setup. (Assuming your new setup has an OS installed on it. It would be wise to back up the very important data on to a DVD first before removing the HDD.)

Either that or plug in both hard-drives and use something like Acronis True Image or Migrate Easy to make an exact copy to the new drive.

and if we didnt hav an os installed on the new one.
The old HDD is ATA connection how easy is this to coonect to the new PC????

so i could plug in old HDD, boot with that and then copy to new HDD
any conflict with driver issues overa new mother board????

You're better off installing an OS to your new system/HDD and copying the DATA you need off the old HDD - as, i'm guessing, you wont be using an old ATA drive as your primary drive.

no i wont be
the man reason am looking at this is as i hav an elite flight sim and am unsure if i can easily reinstall the softwear with out phoning up and messing around for ages.
will need to do some checking

Np, you may be better served going to the 'elite flight sim' forum as there will probably be other like minded members who have had to tackle a similar problem and may have a step by step guide to help you manage your flight sim files for transfer.

Might want to check on whether the new motherboard you are getting has an ide port (as well as the normal sata ones). I had the same thought as you after purchase, and was relieved to see (after purchase!) that the UD5 did indeed have an ide slot to allow me to copy over older drives. Not sure if all of them do though? IDE drives are getting kinda old now, like floppy drives.
