Evening all, was just wondering if its possible to upgrade my hdd in my pre built hp g5200uk, its a 1TB SATA hard drive (7200rpm) if that helps. the main reason i want to change it is that the thing is so damn noisy clunking and clicking all the time whenever the pc thinks about things (loading itunes and the likes) even just sat there in idle its taps and rumbles away its been like this since new i read reviews on the net about people complaining about theirs being noisy but not knowing what it is but im sure its the hdd. any advice on what i could/should change it to would be much appreciated thanks

bttt (back to the top)
sorry not quite sure what you mean mate, i already have 1tb hdd but was wondering if it was normal to be so noisy all the time and wonder if a change would be any quieter?

What drive is in there at the moment?
I have Samsung F1 and F3 drives and both are fairly quiet. Unfortunately now is a bad time to be buying a new drive with prices rocketing.

i was just reading about the price hike. its a 1TB SATA hard drive (7200rpm) from what i can read on the net does that help or do i need to have a look inside the case at a model/part number? cheers for your replies

Just re-read the the op and thought your looking at buying a 1tb hard drive to replace a old drive.

Have a look at the HDD properties in Windows and it will tell you the manufacturer and model number.
It might also be worth using a utility like HDtune to see if the drive has any errors.

Before editing my post I have used several Samsung 1tb F3 drives and not had any issues with these.

I use 2tb 5200rpm ones in my server.

all i can find in propeies is
driver provider: microsoft
then next to a small pic of a hard drive it has ST310005 28AS SCSI disk device is this right?
sory peps

So it is a Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM 32MB Hard Drive.
Don't know them specifically by reputation but I'm not a fan of Seagate to be honest.

A replacement SATA drive will be a simple remove and replace job. You'll need to either reinstall Windows or clone the drive.

You'd be mad to "upgrade" at the minute.

OcUK have just significantly increased HDD prices, something like 25% at a rough guess.

See this thread.

was reading that earlier when looking for a new drive may not do it just yet but just wanted to no if the noise is a common thing and what sort of hdd should i be looking to go for when i do decide to change it?
