Im about to take the plunge and purchase my first dslr, I think I'm settled on the Nikon D5300. Now I have come across HDEW cameras and for all wants and purposes they seem to get very positive reviews. The prices are a couple of hundred below those of other places, although they are going to be grey imports.

They do seem to offer a three year warranty via a third party, it all seems fairly positive tbh, however before I pull the trigger I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experiences of the site that they could share or any opinions on grey imports as a whole. Are the savings worth the lack of an official warranty, or would it be a wiser choice to stump up the extra money and stick to the official lines...

HDEW are good they have an excellent reputation, lots of good feedback on TP.

I've bought plenty of grey kit, never had to test the warranty situation out thankfully but only heard good things about the service of the decent companies e.g. hdew, portus, *******.

Got a few bits ordered with them, should be here Tuesday so i'll be able to pass comment by then if they're any good. Certainly seemed professional & courteous when I gave them a call, which always bodes well!

Thanks for the feedback folks, everything that I have read seems to be fairly positive but I still thought it worth asking the question. The price between them and JL on a d5300 is just under £200 which seemed too good to be true.. Let me know how you get on if you don't mind unKle :)

You going for the kit?

At this moment in time I'm thinking of the body and the 18-55VRII kit at £389. the 18-140mm is tempting however that one comes in at £529 which is an extra £140 I could do with not spending at the moment with a baby on the way in May. What did you end up going for? how've you found it to be?

It's when something goes wrong you find out if they are any good. Not when you order something and it turns up :D

If you want a zoom lens take a look at the Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 SP Di VC USD.

I'm saving for the Newish tamron 150-600 lens :)

Haha v true! :D

Just been unlucky a few times in the past of ordering stuff and it not turning up. I agree, aftersales is where most places make or break their rep. :)

I can really recommend these guys. I bought a 5diii and a few lenses from them a couple of years ago. The 5diii developed a focus fault with two days left on the 12 month warranty. Sent to Canon who in turn sent me an invoice for £195 as it wasn't covered due to be being a grey import. I spoke to p-a-n-a-m-o-z and they asked for a copy of the invoice and they refunded me the £195 within 24 hours even though due to the amount of time Canon had the camera it was now out of warranty.

Currently toying with the idea of a TS-E 45 and if I do decide to buy it will definitely be from them.

Purchase made, due for delivery tomorrow, can't wait :) planning a trip to Chester zoo at the weekend with the fiancée to have a play around with it

Seen 70d on hdew for 599
Seriously tempted as probably get over 300 for my 60D and fresh warranty

Keep both until after the wedding I have coming up (other thread)
