HDMI 1.4 query

I am currently comparing the Asus VG278HE and the older Asus VG278H. The Asus website gives the same HDMI specs for both i.e. 1.4.

I had thought that 1.4a was required for 3d over HDMI? - looking to just plug a 3d Bluray player into the monitor - as well as a PC into the dual DVI of course :)

In any case, I have over-Googled so can no longer see straight lol.... but I'm pretty sure I've seen confirmation that 278H works with displaying 3d from the HDMI port - but seem to remember that I found somewhere that said the 278HE doesn't... (of course I can't find that reference now...)

Are there any users of these monitors that can advise of their experience in this scenario?

Thanks for your help - as always - much appreciated :)

Went back to the Asus uk web site and found the info below in the Overview section (I was looking at the Specification section earlier and couldn't see any diff in the HDMI spec). My bolding of text...

For the VG278H:
Extensive Connectivity
Display stereoscopic 3D via Blu-ray Disc players or game consoles through HDMI 1.4 output. The VG278H offers high compatibility with any media devices with HDMI 1.4, dual-link DVI-D, and D-sub.

Whereas for the VG278HE:
Extensive Connectivity.....
VG278HE comes with rich connectivity including HDMI 1.4, Dual-link DVI-D, D-Sub. Users could simultaneously connect VG278HE to Full HD Blu-ray Disc players and myriad HD playback devices like DVD players, audio devices and set-top boxes for limitless entertainment with its built-in stereo speakers

Going on just this, it could imply that the HE model really doesn't support 3d films over HDMI - or was it the Marketing folk having a fluffy day?

What do you reckon?

You need the VG278H with built-in emitter. That's the key to getting 3D content from a blu-ray player or console. The external emitter has to be plugged in to a PC to function.
