So, are current HDMI 2.0a receivers going to be fully compatible with the full HDR specifications (Dolby Vision / HDR10 / HLG)?
From what I understand, Denon receivers are going to receive a firmware update to allow HLG, so presumably this means they will be reclassified as HDMI 2.0b AFTER the update?
When HDMI 2.1 comes around with dynamic HDR, will this also be a firmware update or is HDMI 2.1 likely to require a new receiver? From what I understand, 2.1 uses the same HDMI connector, so it's only the firmware / cable that needs to change?
Dolby seem to state that Dolby Vision can work on HDMI 1.4, so shouldn't this not be a problem, unless the manufacturers want to make more money...
TLDR, I've got a new amp on the way and am slightly concerned that it will be unable to pass all the iterations of HDR as the HDMI goalposts keep getting moved.
