More technical details will be released on Jan 6, but for now we know HDMI 2.2 is coming in 2025 and brings with it higher bandwidth that allows for higher resolution and refresh rates. It's understood there will be tighter control on the cable specs this time around

QN900D ;) but yes an OLED 4K 240hz TV would be insane.

Ooh that's pretty cool, didn't know any 240hz TVs were out there yet, must be using DSC to do it. I'll wait though, that model doesn't come in the size I want and also yeah Id prefer OLED

I wonder if we'll see hdmi 2.2 TVs and 240hz TVs announced now at CES, I certainly hope so, will make for a nice upgrade over my C9 that I've had for 6 years now

I will be super interested on how HDMI 2.2 handles the cables, display port 2.1 has issues with full bandwidth and cable length. Also keeping eyes peeled for what connections are on new GPUs in 2025. I am looking to purchase a whole new rig and monitor next year but would like details confirmed before i commit to buying.

No idea what the new spec is but probably higher refresh, resolution etc. ie 8K @ 120hz, 4K @ 480hz etc blah blah

Not interested in changing.

We don't yet know the bandwidth, but HDMI2.1 is 48Gbps and DP2.1 is 80Gbps. I like to think HDMI 2.2 will be at least 80Gbps, and if it's higher than that's the cherry on top

With 80Gbps we'd be able to have 4k 240hz TVs that output 10bit HDR RGB 4:4:4 and no DSC. 8k 120hz is also possible using YUV4:2:2

4k 480hz requires 150Gbps bandwidth without sacrifices, you can get it down to 100Gbps with YUV4:2:2 and 83Gbps with 8 bit color, so theoretically 4k 480hz may be doable if the signal is YUV4:2:2 with 8 bit color only.

Definitely like the idea of stricter standards on cables. Buying one shouldn't feel like a lottery.

I agree with the sentiment, if you're buying from a reputable manufacturer, you should know that the cable will work as you expect.

Unfortunately, you're still going to have masses of generic cables on Amazon, eBay etc making false claims about meeting the specs.

I'm happy at my HDMI 2.1 4k 144fps. Any more just invites a world of never ending upgrading lol. The extra grunt needed wouldn't justify the cost for me playing at that resolution.
