Quick question on this before I start pulling cables about...

If I have a device plugged into my (Sony) TV on HDMI 1 or 2 that is being used as the active source, will it still send audio to the soundbar that's on HDMI 3(ARC)?

Currently everything is in the soundbar directly but it only has one port capable of properly dealing with 4K and I now have two 4K sources, so I was planning to move them to the TV directly instead.

Would it not be better to use an audio output on the TV so you no lose the use of an HDMI input ?
(As TV's normally only have 3 or 4 HDMI inputs)

That if the TV has an Audio Output..

Meaning optical? If you had a device capable of high res audio (TrueHD or DTS-HD) then you would lose this over anything other than HDMI.

No need to move everything to the TV, just the other 4K source that is needed, or with 4K sources and leave the others in the soundbar.

To jump on the back of this thread, is there any loss of sound signal by using hdmi arc?

I have Denon 2400 amp but would like to plug my xbox one X directly into my tv (Samsung ks7000) as my tv can universal remote the xbox better if it's directly plugged in and it's a nice remote. Unfortunately the universal remote always "forgets" the xbox and reverts back to remoting the denon (when I don't turn the xbox on at least) .

Unfortunately my tv only outputs dolby digital and not DTS. Think it will make much difference?
