Just a bit of a knowledge share post that someone else might find useful. As of mid 2010 Macbook Pros will send audio over the mini-display port. If anyone is into audio/film production and has a home AV system with HDMI, you can simply buy a DP>HDMI adapter, hook it up to your AV and then have 8 channel PCM audio at 96kHz. If you're working with Logic or Final Cut Studio you simply assign the outputs to the relevant channels, and away you go. It's really that simple and means you don't need to fork out a fortune on a dedicated soundcard with analogue outs. An adapter and 5m HDMI cost me 20 quid. Bargain!
