HDMI cable doesn't work with Samsung TV

Hey folks, recently I got a hold of an ASUS GTX 770 which, coveniently, possesses a HDMI output which isn't blocked off by my case and so I figured it'd be a nice opportunity to use a spare HDMI cable to rig it up to my TV so I could watch some films and so on. Unfortunately, I'm having a slight issue; whilst its on the boot-up/UEFI section, the display is fine but after the 'Starting Windows' screen is display it goes black and the TV says 'Mode Not Supported', forcing me to restart my system and revert back to my VGA monitor.

I've tried using the VGA cable with the TV in the past and it works fine, but the only issue is that I have to screw around unplugging the monitor and so and my VGA cable is pretty short, so I'm having to move my system across my desk so it's close enough to the TV. I don't have any idea what the exact model of the TV is but I've got a photo for if anyone wants to take a shot at helping me out.

Sorry for the crap quality, I took the photo on my phone. So, any ideas?

How many HDMI ports does the TV have? Try them all.
If none work right away, you may need to set the resolution and refresh rate before you connect the monitor, some older tvs won't tell the PC what resolution it needs, try 1366 x 768 and 59Hz.

I think its only got one port. Thanks for the info anyway.

If it works before booting into windows then the cable clearly works.

Once you get past the boot screen you go from VGA resolution to something a lot higher, the TV doesn't support the resolution or frequency coming from your PC. With it being an older small-ish TV, it may not support 1080p, so might need a lower resolution selecting.

On my monitor I'm running it at 1600x900, should I bring it down to something a tad bit smaller than that?

most displays/tvs with hdmi are pretty limited on the resolutions they can accept. 1280x720 should work. Dont expect it to look too hot on the desktop though as that wont be the native resolution of the tv's panel, but if the tv isnt a 1080p panel then 1280x720 is likely to be as good as it gets over hdmi.

Probably a 1080i panel without 1:1 pixel mapping try 1280x720 or 1360x768 usually works you may need to boot into safe mode first though.
