Is this okay? I need a longer cable to situate my pc elsewhere and I only have HDMI to hand with a dvi connector. I only have a dvi monitor and is is not full HD. My 5870 obviously has a HDMI output.
It will be absolutely fine. HDMI and DVI are electronically compatible (HDMI just includes sound as well), so using a longer HDMI cable (so long as it is 5m or under) and a DVI adapter should give you the same image quality as a your shorter DVI cable.
