Does the brand and quality really matter of which hdmi cable you use ?

A freind recently paid over £60 for one and he seems to think the picture quality is a lot better on his than it is on mine.

Im using some wharfdale £9.99 jobbie, would i see much improvment going for a more expensive cable ?

Makes no difference what so ever. Buy the cheapest you can find.

Only time it warrants slightly more expensive cable is when you are getting to longer distances.

agree, as long as you don't have 'sparklies' then it will be indentical, I'm afraid your friend is a bit 'daft'..

If the cable Displays the HDMi logo on the packaging it has gone through the same testing and complies to standards laid down by HDMi whether its a £100 cable or a £3 supermarket special.

In a Home setup you will not see any benefits from an expensive cable other than the connectors may fit a bit better, or it looks nicer.

In theory a cheap HDMI cable will do the job just aswell as an expensive but not always, when i first tried to set my PS3 up for online gaming I could'nt find my router when PS3 searched for wireless network, tried everything to get it setup in the end I found I could connect to internet using the supplied composite cable but not when using the cheap HDMI cable from a high street catalogue shop, I eventually bought a better one & it works great :D
Only pay for your cable what your comfortable with, if a cheap one works for you great:)

Thanks to all sorts of wonderful error correction etc you need an incredible amount of signal loss to render a cheap HDMI cable 'not good enough'. Over a 15m cable then yes, maybe it would be worth forking out a bit extra, but for anything less than 5m, a cheap £5 will do just fine.

There is no variation in picture quality with HDMI, it either works or it doesn't, now go slap your mate while shouting the word 'placebo' over and over. If it doesn't beat it into him at least it'll look funny.

What does the type of cable going from the PS3 to the TV have to do with finding the wireless network?

To be honest it should'nt have anything to do with it, I can only tell you what happened with me. I originally had me PS3 connected to my plasma using a cheap HDMI & I could'nt find the wireless network, even tried my friends PS3 & that could'nt find it.
I thought it was because the signal wasnt strong enough, so I took PS3 down stairs and plugged it into a portable tv using the supplied composite cable, I was able to get a signal, update me PS3 & surf the net. So I took PS3 back upstairs and connected to tv still using the composite and I could still connect to the net, but as soon as I used the cheap HDMI cable I could'nt connect to the net but I dont know why only difference was the cable used
Since then I've bought a better cable & apart from "host ended game" on COD4 I've never had any problems:cool:
To the OP just buy a cheap cable, if it works your luckier than me:)

Since HDMI is a very high bitrate digital signal, with a poorly shielded/designed cable, it's feasible it would act as an antenna, causing some interference with the WiFi..
This is the one problem with cables, there are bugger all standards as such, so you have to be a bit wary when any cable, irrespective of price, you can have unwanted side effects...
Generally the more you spend, the better constructed, and the better shielded/immune to interference! however, I have some sub £10 cables that are extremely well built, so you don't have to spend £60+, just have a little common sense!
