Ok folks here goes another one of them boring Threads. i know a lot of people say a lead is a lead and no difference in visual or audio when it comes down to digital.

Im looking for 2 decent HDMI cables. Is they anything that you need to look for when buying like materials exc on how long they last. I know some say buy cheap and pay more on what they getting connected to and some say what you get what you pay for

You know how everybody says for years across most sites a HDMI cables works or it doesn't? This never happened with the HDMI cables from Betron. The picture was splitting up and overlapping horizontally, snowy colour noise flashing, white sparkles all over the screen while it was jumping and eventually the picture cutting in and out.

The replacement done the exact same. 3 sets/players they were tested on and that was the first ever HDMI cable I've had issues with.

HDMI is a digital signal, its either going to work or not work. There is no quality difference.
Take measurements of what length you want and find the cheapest thing you can find.
Most the ones I have are from 99p stores.

^^+1. A digital signal is a digital signal. Whilst some cables are technically better than others, as long as the signal reaches its destination without being garbled then the picture is exactly the same. It doesn't matter how strong the signal is as long as it gets to your TV in tact. The durability of the cable should be your main consideration when buying.

Surely that's exactly it though; they didn't work. I wouldn't class any cable that causes those sorts of problems as working!

Even then, if you somehow destroy a cheap cable, its probably your own fault :D
If you need a cable to go through the wall for example or a long distance, get a decent one (since over 10m it has to have amplifier inside). Even then, its going to work or not work.
I got one of these for going through a wall and up the stairs, its a nice thick cable and was the cheapest I could find at the time.

In fact anything on overclockers hdmi page is good quality and you cant go wrong with them https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cables-and-adapters/multimedia/hdmi (IF the actual physical quality of the cable is a factor in what you need it for) otherwise go the cheap route :)

It was still displaying a picture. Just not a normal picture but a malfunctioning picture.

I see your point, it showed some sort of image, but even so that's sort of what people mean when they say HDMI cables work or not. You're not going to get a slightly sharper, more vivid image from one cable compared to another. It's either going to be fine or it's not.

Power cables on the other hand... :D
