Can you buy an HDMI cable to connect the back if my TV into my rotel amp ? And how well will it work ?
 
Without knowing the models you're talking about, I can only assume that you have HDMI (ARC) on both devices. I connect my TVs to a soundbar or amplifier using HDMI, set the TVs' sound output to HDMI ARC (this will be marked, my LG is HDMI no.2 out of 4 for ARC), and set the soundbar/amp input to HDMI. And that's it. Been faultless for me for the past few years. I think one is an HDMI 2.0 and the other a 2.1 cable, but I'm unsure what version you'd need for sound alone.

No. There is no other device, and no HDMI slot on the amp, i have 3 HDMI sockets on the TV

I input a hifi DAC walker into my old rotel amp. I was wondering if I could do similar with my TV, which connects to a freeview recorder and DVD with smart leads.
 
I guess you're trying to get sound from your TV to be played via your amp?

In which case, that'll be entirely dependent on what inputs the amp has - if it doesn't have HDMI, then using an HDMI cable is not likely to work :p

Optical might be an option if both the TV and amp have that available?
 
Watch out for ground loop hum if you use the headphone jack on the TV into an amp.
 
Likely as said above, you'll need to use a 2 x phono plugs to the amp and 3.5mm jack to the TV.

Long shot but unlikely, you could check if the amp has an optical in and the TV has an optical out. If the kit has those, you could use an optical cable. I run one from the PC's soundcard to my Yamaha amp, excellent quality sound.
 
I mean unless we get model numbers we can only guess from our end. You'd be best off with optical if that's possible, but if not 3.5mm headphone into RCA?

Source--->tv optical out--->dac---->rotel stereo integrated amplifier

I do this..my LG tv has a sound mode that can output to headpones and the tv speakers at the same, so I run a 3.5mm stereo cable to a tangent amp so I can use the TV as a 'center speaker' and stereo to the amp to the big speakers.
